"I have a 85 HP Johnson-Model#85ETLR78C that will not stay on for more than 7 sec.I have a 50:1 ratio(new gas).I have new plugs out of the boxthat I put in.I also have sprayed the carb with Carberator cleaner and have removed the screw plug from the bowl to drain all debri.THat is all I have done,also I was wondering if the plugs need to be gapped?Still waiting to go fishing,so hurry please."

"Spark plugs should be Champion QL77JC4 plugs, gapped at .040 .

Spraying the carburetor is a waste of time. All you're doing is shooting the cleaner directly thru the throat into the crankcase.

If you have compression and spark (100+ psi) (spark jumps a 7/16" gap w/plugs removed), remove, dissmantle, clean, and rebuild the carburetors.

Be sure to manually clean the slow speed and high speed jets."
