I just got a 68 evinrude seletric. The wire harness has been cut. Would like to see if she runs, but have no idea. I have the control for it as well. Haven't opened it up to check it out?

The motor will run without the battery hooked up.---Is the belt driven generator there ?----Pull it over with a rope to check spark.---Spark should jump a gap of 5/16" on a test device.---Post actual compression values.----Pull the big black connecter apart and motor should run.-----Water must be supplied to impeller when starting this motor.----But if it starts and proves a good motor you need a new impeller anyway.
 
Yes, the generator is there. Thank you for that info. If it cranks, is it of any value. I think i might put a Honda 40 4stroke on this boat when I'm done restoring it
 
Older 2 strokes have little value.-----Most folks would need to find a shop willing to work on these.----Hard to find and big $$.-----Folks who know these motors have a bunch already and often get them for free.
