I was wondering if it is possible to use the wiring harness from a 1979 60hp johnson on a 1978 70hp johnson. I accidently grounded the positive side of my starting battery to the metal frame of my 70 and cooked the electronics. Anyone?
 
Yes it was the main positive terminal from the starting battery. I touched my wrench to the metal frame trying to loosen the terminal nut and grounded it. When that happened a puff of smoke came out from the engine cowling. I checked the fuses and they are still good.
 
I was attempting to replace the battery tie down. The positive side nut was too tight so I went at it with a wrench and didn't disconnect the ground. The wrench hit the frame of the boat and POW. That's when I noticed a puff of smoke come out from the engine cover.
