Wiring harness

​I wasn't familiar with an 85hp in 1993. After checking found a E85TTLETS with wire harness #584604 on this site for $30. That's not too bad if it's what you need, brand new.

I just bought the boat in March and was told the motor was a ‘93 all the paperwork pertaining to the sale said 93. How or where do I run the serial number to check actual year and model #? Thanks for your help
 
I ran the model number from my id tag and it tells me I have a 1975 engine!! It runs great when it starts, I was having trouble getting it started and was moving wires around in my engine compartment and it fired up. That’s what lead me to the assumption that I have a bad harness.
 
Whole different animal. I was wondering if you had a E85TTLET? Not a common motor. When you say engine compartment, do you mean in the boat or under the engine cowling? Also do you mean the motor won't crank over or it won't start? Need to start with an open air spark test. Motor should jump 3/8" gap.
 
Before you replace your harness maybe you should check the one you have. Your problem could be as simple as a bad connection. Clean all your connections and make sure they are all tight and clean to shiny.
