Winterizing FWC M440

Normally when I winterize my engine I drain all raw water from coolers, exchanger and manifolds. This year I'm contemplating to instead run an antifreeze mixture through my raw water system with all connections still made - with antifreeze properly tested for specific gravity of course.

My question: Is this not recommended by anyone, why? For the stock M440 heat exchanger how much antifreeze mixture should I plan for? My thought on this is that (2) 1 gal containers to make 4 gallons total would do. Of course I won't introduce the mixture in until the thermostat has opened.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks, Noel.

The t-stat doesn't matter, it is in the fresh water side anyway. The raw water side which is what you're going to do, passes water through the raw water circuit and out the exhaust regardless of the t-stat position.
