"Yesterday I winterized my Merc 75hp.I noticed there is some leftover fuel in the filter{ small plastic in-line type}. Should I remove this? Just before the motor began to stall { after fogging} , I even choked it to try and get more fuel out of the lines but apparently not enough."
 
You are better off mixing the

You are better off mixing the proper amount of Sea Foam or Stabil in the gas and then running it a while. Don't run it dry as you never get all the fuel out of the carbs however your cylinders are dry and have no protection.

Don't worry. when you run the motor at idle for a while and then disconnect the fuel and run it till it stops there will be lots and LOTS of oil on the pistons and bearings. Oil simply does not " disappear " out of a motor when it has run out of " fuel "

"I guess my concern was the ethanol/gas sitting in the fuel filter and possibly part of the line all winter. I do have stabil mixed in with the gas , I put it in last time i filled up back in september. I now have about 1/3 of a tank left in there which will have to remain in the tank during the winter."

seems like a catch 22...fill it up and have the gas sit for over 5 months {although with stabilizer} or leave it at 1/3 and possibly have condensation.

Put the gas in the car and put fresh fuel in the boat in the spring. A wee bit of oil won't hurt a thing in the car.

the best is add seafoam or some type of fuel stabilizer to gas tank, run motor for around 10 mins so u know the new gas mixture is in the carbs, then shut it off

check lower unit oil, foog motor and u r done"
 
Running fuel out of the carbur

Running fuel out of the carburetors is the best thing you can do to keep them performing like new.The motor will love it and so will your pocket book.

u have the gas stabilized in there and u r fine

yes there is stabil mixed in the gas.After reading about the many ways of winterizeing the general rule was to yank the fuel line from the motor and fog the cylinders untill the fuel ran out and the engine stalled.
