i just bought a 9.8 merc 110 but have no idea how to store it for winter.what is the best way to winterize one of these motors.

"1. Put stablizer in the gas, run it 'til it's up to temperature, then pull the gas line and run her dry.

2. Pull the plugs and shoot fogging spray into both cylinders and through the OPEN carb. Pull her over a bunch of times--ignition OFF--and repeat.

3. Put the plugs in loose and leave the wires off (to remind you to blow that oil out in the Spring before starting it up).

4. Pull the LU drain and vent plugs and drain the LU overnight. Then fill the LU with new lube and replace the plugs.

5. Pull the prop and lube the shaft before putting it back on.

6. If you have a METAL fuel tank, drain it thoroughly and seal it up tight.

7. Finally, grease the thumb screws, the neutral locking mechanism, and spray some protective metal stuff all over it.

Did I forget anything, guys?

"Remove lower unit and change the waterpump, grease lightly the driveshaft splines. Winterizing all depends on the location really, but Jeff covered everything."

"If there is any possibility you had alcohol or ethanol enriched fuel make sure you run the motor for the last time on non-oxy fuel. Here in MN the Ethanol is everywhere, you have to be carefull wherever you are. Stabil will not remove the alcohol from your fuel and the result could be damage to anything with rubber composition."

"I agree to that, Jeff, but what I am saying is that with Ethanol @ even 10 or 15 percent (which is what is typically served to us here in MN)......there would be enough residual alc. inside the crankcase to soften and eventually possibly cause crank seal failure. This typically ruins the lower seal........unless you always stored the motor laying down."
