Are there any tricks to gettin

Are there any tricks to getting at the drain valves on the sides of the engine block.Very tight engine compartment. Is there any way to run antifreeze through the block without running the engine. Please be as detailed as possible.
Thank you !

"Putting her up for the winter ( post 1 of 7)
I started the engine and let it warm up to 170 degree's then I ran it another 5 minutes on the muffs to make sure it was hot, Filled the bucket with 9 gallons of antifreeze and started it back up, It drank that in about 3 Mins. Green antifreeze was running out both exhaust for a while.

Shut engine down and washed the foot.

Only thing I noticed is that the very top hoses that go into the top for the exhaust never got hot, and I know I ran the boat for 15 mins and made sure it went to 170 degree's and stayed there. Also I think the oil cooler hose was not hot but every thing else was very hot.

Antifreeze came out of the exhaust for a while, while it was running.

Does the oil cooler get cold water from the pump? and does the to small top hoses that hook to the exhaust stay cool?

Here is a video of the engine and you can see the top hoses.

this is the way I do it."

"I replaced the plugs with high quality stainless steel ball valves (Mcmaster Carr Supply). They were a pain but now it is pretty simple to reach down and give a quarter turn. You should still stick a wire in if you think that you sucked up any crud. While you are at it, install a marine fuel (UL rated) valve in the fuel line. This makes it easy to run the carb dry prior to fogging. Things Mercury should have done."

"The carb will be dry by next

"The carb will be dry by next spring anyway. What will be left in the bowl is the less and non volatile components of the fuel. These should in theory redsissolve with the fresh fuel unless they have polymerized into a gooey mass, but why bother? I have seen carbs gooped up to the point of not working."

Use SEA FOAM for stabilizing y

Use SEA FOAM for stabilizing your fuel and you won't have a gummed up carb.

Has anyone experienced anti-fr

Has anyone experienced anti-freeze not being sucked up through the muffs while running your boat during winterizing ? I am thinking of changing the water pump system in the lower unit. The boat is a 1991 Stingray /Mercruiser 4.3

"I use Stabil, works great...if your foot will not suck the anitfreeze thru it after the emgine has been warmed up on the muffs, you need to rebuild your pump."

"All that Sta Bil, Sea Foam et

"All that Sta Bil, Sea Foam etc. does is act as an antioxidant. That is it helps prevent oxygen from reacting with the hydrocarbons forming acids, alcohols, esters and so on. It will not prevent the fuel in the lines and especially the carb bowl from evaporating leaving a "varnish". Try this experiment. Put some fuel with sta bil in a shallow clear glass bowl and let it evaporate. What is left is what is left in your carb, injectors, or fuel rails. Gum Out dissolves this varnish (supposedly)."
