"If its the right length the lower unit should fit but the splines on the prop could be different. It will also look different since the newer 35 has a swept back lower fin. The brown band is an 84-86 model, all 40hp from 80 to 83 and 35hp 84 to 90 will work. The 50hp are also the same of that vintage"
