I have a 1987 mercury 50hp it will idle on the hose but not in a drum of water it runs perfect just wont idle. If I take the hood off it will idle I can put the hood on while it's running it will slowly die. I cleaned the carbs and tried adjusting the air screw. It acts like its starving for air when I put the hood back on. I'm going to get new plugs this afternoon and try that I do know its firing on all cylinders just wanting to know where I should start looking for the problem.
