Thanks in advance for all you

Thanks in advance for all your help. Have a mid 80's pontoon with a 48 hp evinrude. When i turn the key tp start the starter engages the flywheel and the flywheel spins maybe an inch and then stops. I can spin the motor by using two hands and it seems to spin easily. I am a car mechanic so it fells easier than a car flywheel. I put 12 volts to the starter bolt and ground to the starter with the same results. I put a new starter on and have the same result. Any help would be apperciated thanks again

"If you can spin the flywheel

"If you can spin the flywheel easily by hand, you either have a bad battery, bad starter, or bad connections in between the two. If you are connecting a good 12v source to the starter and it won't turn the engine, IMHO you still have a bad starter."

when you say can spin the flyw

when you say can spin the flywheel easily by hand what do you mean? What could cause to much compression? thanks

"This is where I got that pass

"This is where I got that passage:"spin the motor by using two hands and it seems to spin easily." I thought that's what you said in your post. If the motor is too hard to turn, remove the plugs and try it. If it now spins easily, then there is likely a compression issue. The only issue I know of that will create too great of compression is water in the cylinders. When you pull the plugs an turn it over, you should find that out pretty quickly."

If I take the plugs out the en

If I take the plugs out the engine cranks over with the starter. There is no water or any liquid coming out of the engine. Even with one plug left in it stops turning when it hits a compression stroke
