will Evinrude controls fit a johnson

I found a '86 Johnson 40 Hp with no controls. Will the controls from my '76 Evinrude 70 Hp work?

Red plug works on red plug, black works on black. Cables can be accommodated, modified or changed.
It should work. After the electric shift control, the 2 cables control should work up to
'95 model (I believe)
