why will it only run with choke

so i have been having problems with my merc 50hp 4 stroke motor. when i have the choke on it will run but as soon as i turn it off it dies. i cleaned the carb fuel filters and they were sooo dirty but it didn't help. what could be next?

First check all your fuel lines and make sure they are soft and pliable with no cracks, especially the primer bulb. If all good rebuild the fuel pump.

Motor that needs choke to run has blockage in the carburetor or too little fuel.---------------Re-visit carburetor cleaning.

thanks but is there a way to check the carbs without getting in to deep with taking them apart? i have taken the FP off and i can't take it apart the screws in there are stripping out. how does the FP work exactly i see how it goes in and out with fuel (i.e. springs or n e moving part) thanks again for the help

thanks so much for all the help i found a loose fuel line gasket going from the fuel pump to carbs, its running now.
