"The old SeaRay (3.0 liter Merc) had the wing nuts that connected the cables to the battery. Why does my new boat (5.0 liter MPI Merc) have the battery post connections? Is it because of all the electronics?

Not only are the post connectors more difficult connect or remove, it seems that after a few tightenings those battery post connectors become misshaped and they are difficult to get tight. Does anyone have an acceptable workaround or modification?"

The large posts handle high cu

The large posts handle high current better. Buy a battery cable puller and spreader. They are cheap and don't destroy the shape of the cable end. The spreader acts like a reverse pliers.

Also buy a battery post/connec

Also buy a battery post/connector cleaner to keep the contacts shiney and smooth. Only a buck or two and it will pay dividends for years to come.

If you've already distorted them,..... All bets are Off.......

Btw,......
After they're Snugged down,.....
I slather them with a liberal coating of Grease.....
They'll Never corrode that way......."
