I have a 1968 Johnson 55 hp Tr

I have a 1968 Johnson 55 hp Trl-10R s/n J2931497. I am trying to learn how two stroke motors operate. I received a Johnson service manual today and it shows two sets of points. I can understand 1 set of points and 3 lobes on the distributor cam or 3 sets of points and 1 lobe on the distributor cam but 2 sets of points on a 3 cylinder motor is over my head. Would welcome an education from anyone who has knowledge on this subject. Thanks for any and all help!!

"Joseph,
I think it has to do

"Joseph,
I think it has to do with increasing dwell. The points are connected in parallel, the first set opens while the second set remains closed completing the circuit. As the second set begins to open to interrupt the circuit, the first set is beginning to close to complete the circuit again. I believe, when properly set, there was approximately 17 deg. of open circuit duration. So if we have three ignition pulses per revolution that leaves 103 deg. of dwell per ignition pulse. I may be wrong here, in my understanding of this amplified system, so it my be wise to wait for others to comment."

"Thanks, sounds like it works

"Thanks, sounds like it works like the double points distritors in the Dodges of the late 60's"
