We moved our 36' Hatteras

We moved our 36' Hatteras from Michigan to Miami 3 years ago. I am starting to worry about corrosion in our 12" "dogbone" risers. Now I am told that they are no longer available. What can I do?

"Why am I being vague? The engines are Crusader 454 cu.in. 350 hp. The risers are sea water cooled and will corode through in salt water. I need to plan on replacing them. They don't make the 12" risers anymore, so I am told, and the only option is an 8" riser. The distance from our water line to the center top of the riser outlet is 17". Is it safe to reduce that 4" to 13"? Does anyone know where I can get new 12" risers. Now, am I still being vague?"

"Model year, part #, maybe a picture... There have been several versions of manifolds and risers used by Crusader over the life of the 454 and you're not giving us much to go on."

"You'll have to stack a few sets of extenders. They make them in various heights, but not THAT high!

"Gee Rick. You are kinda insulting me, I think. The engines are 1986 Crusaders. There are no tags on the risers. The manifolds are rear outlet, not center. The risers bolt on the aft end of the manifolds, make a 90 degree turn up for 12". They then turn 90 degrees aft end join the elbow. I am told they were very common and have always been refered to as dogbones because they appear to have a knob on each end."

"Sorry, I'm getting old and cranky. Osco has a replacement 8", but not the 12". The Osco # ia 7169.

You may want to consider changing over to the newer center riser style manifolds. I just went through this with a customer with the same vintage V/6. No one, including Crusader, makes the replacement manifold for the V/6 so he had to upgrade to center risers.

It worked out well and the cost wasn't too bad (around $1,500.00 for twins) including all the new hardware, gaskets and fittings."
