Where is my thermostat?

Hello all. I have some exploded views of various heat exchangers for my 1987 Crusader 270s but none of the three are quite what I have as shown in the photo. Can anybody tell me where my thermostat is and whether or not I have a zinc? One view shows a zinc, the other shows just a drain plug. Thanks in advance.

Steve

Looking at your schematics it looks like the thermostat is in its normal place but rather then in the intake itself it is in the unit that bolts to the intake. Can't answer the zink question.

If you downloaded the parts manual from crusader's www site, it is NA to a late 80's model 270.

The t-stat should be in the housing at the front of the intake.

The HX zinc, if you have one, is usually located on the raw water inlet side, on the uppermost quadrant. Typically, you will see the factory decal as shown in the owner's manual. Not all HX have the zinc. Nominal size is a CAMP E-1, based on memory...if the HX had one, it is nothing more than a pipe plug with a tapping for the zinc. If you find small pipe plugs on the BOTTOM of the HX, they are usually drains.

BTW, looking at the pics, you have a full closed system...finally, the drawings in the parts manuals are notional and deviations are pretty common.

Since the thermostat's job is the hold back coolant until the desired temperature has been reached, a V-8 engine temp control thermostat should always be located as close to the intake manifold's coolant outlet as possible!

Thanks RicardoMarine. I was confused because I've seen some diagrams showing the thermostat actually in the heat exchanger housing. I know where it is now though.
