Whats wrong with this thing

"ran my correct craft today...

"ran my correct craft today...engine sounds great (M318 POLY). However, one side of the engine is heating up much fast than the other, and stays that way. I just installed new impellers and removed the thermostat completely. The manifolds are fine. I removed hoses and ran water through them. These are not the problem. It seems like the cylinder head and block on the right side (from front of engine) is very hot. Temp gauge read 150-160. I need some help here, dont really know what else to do. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get everything out there."

"no just my hand. One side is

"no just my hand. One side is very cool...maybe not hot enough, and the other side is so hot you can hardly touch it. I think it could be one of two things...the intake gasket or a blockage between the block and that water bank thing on the front of the engine (sorry dont know the proper word for it). It is a remanufactured engine, so the heads were on it when I got the engine. I had someone install the motor, so I did not put the intake or anything else on the motor. Could the head gasket be flipped around? Any help is greatly appreciated."

Not likely. I'll bet the water to the exhaust manifold on the hot side is restricted somehow.

How about deliberately restricting hte cool side with a valve?

"that was my first assumption.

"that was my first assumption. I removed the hoses leading to the exhaust manifolds and ran water through them. They are clear, and are cool even after the engine has been ran for a while. It is just that head and that side of the block. I have no idea why unless there is a blockage, but I hate to go tearing the engine apart trying to find it. What should I do? Is there any way to track this down?

"The water from the pump passes through the engine right cylinder block, right cylinder head, the left cylinder block, the left cylinder head, intake manifold and thermostat housing in that order." (directly from engine manual)

Does this mean that the only water going into the intake is coming from the left cylinder head? I thought that it came from both."

"No. The water enters the bloc

"No. The water enters the block in front, then goes to both sides and out the t-stat at the top. The exhaust manifolds should see equal flows as well.

Can you post some photos?

Jeff"

"my 74 arabian with a 440 rwc

"my 74 arabian with a 440 rwc is doing the same thing, took it out last sat. and the star. side was steaming out the exhaust and the manifold was getting so hot you could hear the water boiling inside it and the bypass hose had no water in it.
seemed like the same amount of water was coming out the exhaust ports equally.. i'm wondering if replacing hoses and the impeller have anything to do with it..like air bubbles in the system?? but i would think that on the lake the cooling system would bleed itsefl of air pretty quickly..."
