Whats this worth?

I have just picked up a 25202 a 1972 25hp evinrude short shaft. It is in perfect original condition just like the day it was bought. It has less than 20 hours on it and looks and runs great! I know this HAS to be a traue gem. I have heard they were pretty good motors from my grandfather and his friends but need to ask the evinrude gu-roos. thanks. -steve

The ol "how much is it worth" thing eh? Well, I have'nt seen a mint '72 25hp in a while, prolly since '72. With 100% paint, 100% motor, it could easily go for $800.00. Find the right guy and it could go for $1200.00. What's it worth to you? Where you live, how bad do you need the money, who you can find that wants it, on and on, demand dictates how much your motor is worth.

well to make a long story short it had been used by a volunteer fire department for 2 weeks and the batallion cheif command, or whatevr his ranking is, retired ....took it home and never used it. he passed away soon later and his son (the guy i got the motor from) just went through his stuff and didnt want it for whatever reason. so, here i am with a mint motor that just sat up for a lot of years and the crazy thing is all i did was change fuel lines and spray carb cleaner and plugs and she fired up 2nd or 3rd pull and runs GREAT! so, yeah she is mint.........is this something i should use....or just hold on to for future sale or i mean...i need a 25 hp motor but if its worth good money...........thanks farnsp

Well, it's a nice find. I'm not much for polishing a motor and then let it sit under a sheet in the garage. I'm more of a user than a looker. Of coarse, I dont have a motor thats exactly mint. I'd check the compression, the spark, impeller, gear case oil, the carb, spark plugs, then pour a feww ounces of seafoam in six gallons of premix. Run that tank threw and see what you think and decide from there.
