"Hi Brent,Is this motor running? If not.The first thing to do is check compression,look very close at your wire harness for corrosion,brittle wires,clean and tighten connections,then check for spark,new plugs,a carb rebuild,probably a fuel pump rebuild,at least an impeller and gasket on the water pump,and don't forget to blow out the tell tale just in case anything has set up home there,fuel is 50:1,might smoke if oil ratio is a little more,no harm in that,Is it a good motor?I don't Know,there are others on this forum that could tell you that,Can you use this motor? Yes,IF you want to spend time,$'s and your wife's patience

,you are going to have difficulty getting a shop to work on this motor.My beautiful merc800 is '69 and I use it at every opportunity
