serial number is 0c16401 i was

serial number is 0c16401 i was told it was a 88 mariner 115 4 cyl anybody have some info on this please let me know thanks

thanks graham is there any way to find out the history on this motor??? it seems to be more powerful than most 115hp engines i have had and runs pretty good overall

"Until the EPA came along with their emissions rules for outboards, Merc was in the habit of underlisting the actual horsepower of their motors. Older 90's actually put out about 100 horses - made the Merc's look great next to the competition.

However, once the EPA got involved, it made no sense for them anymore - a 90 is only allowed to put out "x" emissions, so they tightened up the engineering. Most mfg's are now within about 4 or 5% of posted horsepower.

Your 115 could be putting out somewhere in the 125-130 range in actuallity - would have to put it on a dyno to know for sure...."
