"I have a 40 Mercury that came on a boat I purchased in April of this year, I believe it to be a 1993 model year but not sure the serial number is 0G037296 hope someone can help? Also the water that comes out the pee hole seems to be really hot and sometimes it when just idling it just puts out steam or very weak water flow. Could this be that the water pump is failing or maybe a bad thermostat? Hope someone can help.

"It is a 1994. Could be just the thermostat but if you don't know when the last time the impeller was replaced, I would definately replace it."
