"IF you are taking about the lower crank seal, it's a piece of cake. Remove the power head, dig out the old seal, then press a new one in its place. The cases don't even need to be split.

"Ben, it sounds like you are referring to the thrust hub (behind the prop and (sometimes)a "cap" that looks like a washer).

If so, it should simply slide right off, although after 20+ years of sitting in place, it may be a little reluctant to move...

The diagram below isn't the greatest, but #59 will be the thrust hub - is that what you are getting at?
