My Mariner 40EL has a code of 6E9 L and a serial number of 423254. Can anyone tell me the year of this motor?

The year is not really encoded in the serial, I pull it off a chart.

It kinda breaks down like this -

40E - horsepower/Electric start model

6E9 - Yamaha production code for 40 horse motors produced in 1981-on (based on the design of Yamaha 40 horse motors produced between 1981-83)

S - short shaft (for 15" transom)

100901 - actual serial"
