"CANNOT SEEM TO FIND YEAR FOR A MARINER 9.9HP. SERIAL #OG260729. AND WILL DAMAGE BE DONE TO THE MOTOR IF IT WAS RUN WITH JUST REGULAR 2 CYCLE OIL ,NOT MARINE, LIKE YOU WOULD USE IN A WEED EATER(MIX 50:1). CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT PLEASE?"
 
Its a 1995. Use oil rated TCW-

Its a 1995. Use oil rated TCW-3. Other oil may foul your plugs and leave you stranded.

Merc service manual 90-827242R1 - fantastic. If you can't get ahold of one then distant second would be Seloc's for 2 cylinder Mercs...

Can anyone help me with the mo

Can anyone help me with the model of my Mariner 15 hp motor. I cannot locate an information plate anywhere but there is a number on one of the welsh plugs which I am hoping is a serial number. The number is 014035.
Any help greatly appreciated.

"Tony, a number of the Mariners were completely built by Yamaha. I suspect that is what you have.

If it was a Merc built model, the serial would allow you to find the year.

Working on my (Yami)assumption, the number you have "may" be the serial but is missing the model info. A Yamaha serial would look like 684-014035.

If the number you have found is part of the model/serial it could be a 1981 (short shaft/rope start) - but without the entire number it's not certain at all.

Perhaps you could post a picture, that may help..."

"Graham, the motor is indeed a short shaft pull start. I have attached a photo of the whole thing with cowl attached. I have another of the bare motor if that is better.
