"Hello,
I recently bought a 115 Evinrude from an engine remanufacturer. The engine is all nice and clean with a fresh coat of paint. The only problem I am having is trying to figure out what model and year the motor is. When he sent the bill of sale it just listed Evinrude 115. The serial decal was "lost" during painting. How can I tell what model and year my motor is? I can post photos to my Photobucket.com account to help y'all. Thanks, Tony"

have you checked for the plug

have you checked for the plug on the motor?

its about the size of a quater and it should have your model #.

did you buy the whole assembly or just the powerhead?

have you contacted the manufacturer if they rebuilt it they should have the info on it.

have you looked on the transom bracket real good for a plate on the port side?

"David,
Where would this plug

"David,
Where would this plug be located at? I bought the whole motor. I called the re manufacturer and he said that it must have fallen off during painting. I am not worried about the serial number but mostly the model number. I looked on the transom but I will look again just to make sure. I am going to start mounting it Monday. I hope I find it then. What I am concerned about is wiring. I have found a number of schematics on how the wiring should go. I have the cable for the wiring so I hope there is a three wire connection to wire up the tach and also I am concerned about the trim wires. Do you know what colors the wires should be for the trim on the throttle? Thanks again, Tony"

"Hey Y'all,
Okay to make it easier on you, please tell me of what I should take the pictures of, i.e. meaning which area of the block, or stuff like that? I do not have any type of identification plate that is for sure on the side of the cover. Hopefully y'all can help me out with other ways to find out. What colors would be the remote trim wires? I have the tach wires found out. They have a three wire plug with purple, gray and black. Thanks again, Tony"

"David and Others,
I have upl

"David and Others,
I have uploaded some more pictures to my Photobucket account. It is as follows:
http://photobucket.com/tonyhouk
I found the plug on the motor. It has G3832478 on it. You can see it in the photos. I found out that my motor appears to be a 90 degree motor not a 60 degrees. So that helps to at least narrow it down more. What can I do with the plug number David? I found the cable for the trim wires. There appear to be six wires that are on this plug. Three of them go to the trim switch on the housing. Can I buy a harness that runs from this plug on the engine to the helm? I am sure that I can but what do you suggest? I have some connectors, three wire, that I could rig up but I don't think that would be the best for the marine environment. Thanks for the help again. Tony"

"yep you have the red connecto

"yep you have the red connector.

do you not already have a remote control?

any remote with a red plug will be compatible from late'79 and up will also be compatible on the control cables also.

my plug is just behind the flywheel, on the port side block (on top of the motor). its about the size of a quater"

Motor cover ( if original

Motor cover ( if original ) and the newer motor mounts make this a 95 model as per my factory brochure for that year.

"I am using a generic Uflex control for my helm. I have the wiring harness to the helm but it does not include the trim wires as far as I can tell. I may just use some of my motorcycle connectors to wire into the trim harness. I am still trying to upload the photos that I just took to my Photobucket account. The motor plug has on it G3832478. What does that mean? Thanks, Tony

my motor is a bit older so the trim wires are a bit different. the continouswave site has the color codes based on a '92 v6 if you scroll down to the omc listing (tilt/trim is at the bottom of omc). you will need relays if your not already set up with them.

as for the #s i dont know but im sure someone can help you with those.

The motor is a 95 or perhaps a 96.The serial # means little on OMC motors.

"To the both you, thanks with following seas. So the number is basically a serial number? I looked at a generic manual I have and the '95 model seems to stack up well for the wiring I have. I am going to go down and buy a trim cable harness on Monday so that I can wire that up to my new helm. Hopefully by the weekend of the 27th I will be motoring. I really hate house sitting so far from home. Have fun and thanks again, Tony"

"Hello All,
Well I was able to do some searching. I looked on the engine mount and I found the serial number plate. It was painted over. I was able to get the real serial and model number. Unfortunately I was unable to get the year off of it. I am pretty sure that it is a '95. I ordered the trim harness and throttle/shift cables. So I am ready to start installing the engine once the sun rises this morning. Thank you again for all the help. Have fun boating, Tony"
