"I just boat another boat toda

"I just boat another boat today, It is a 18ft astro boat, It is a 83 model but in great shape. It Has a newer mercury outboard on it, Not really new but newer then what was on the boat when it was new. I was told it was a 90HP But it seems to be bigger then that to me, It does have 6 spark plugs,So I know it is a 6 cylinder And it seems to be a 4-stroke I dont know, It is oil injected. Can anyone help me out or tell me how I can find out? Thanks."

"its 2 cycle if its oil inject

"its 2 cycle if its oil injected, we need a serial number, back of boat on the right transom bracket"

"Ok, well it shows you how muc

"Ok, well it shows you how much I know, I have another Boat that takes 50:1 that you have to premix, so this put oil in one spot and gas in the other is new to me. I wasnt sure if you were asking for the Hull ID or the Serial number for the Engine, cause the serial number for the engine was on the left and the hull id was on the right of the transom. Well here is the Serial number off of the Engine:6443707 and the Hull ID:AST18532V83G."

Your serial # comes back to a V-6 150HP XR-2. This is a two stroke motor. The oil injection tank is 3 gallons inside the boat somewhere if it is still connected. Or pre-mix 50:1 if it is not.

The model years are '78-'85 for that motor.

"Sweet, Is that a good engine?

"Sweet, Is that a good engine? It looks Brand New not a scratch on it, It still does have the 3 gallon tank for the oil on it with the resivor on the top of the engine.See the people that I bought it from said it was a 90hp and I had a feeling it wasnt when I saw it. It hasnt been ran since July of last year so I wanted to clean out the fuel tank and change the Fuel filter, Any other recommendations I should do before starting it besides hook up the ear muffs? THanks again for your help and if you know more tell me."

The 90 was a straight 6 not a V-block. Pretty bullet-proof. Check the impeller and thermostats.

"Yeah That is what threw me of

"Yeah That is what threw me off, Cause me 75 Hp on my pro craft is a inline 3... Well I guess that is good news for it being a 150 instead of a 90hp. More power and speed. Like I said I dont have any outboard smarts, What is the Impeller? And the Thermostats are located where?"

"Mark, There are two thermost

"Mark, There are two thermostats located on the upper cylinder heads. You will see two hoses, and the thermostats are under the covers.

The impeller is located inside the lower unit. You need to drop the LU to get at it. You will need a service manual to know how to replace it."

Do I need to replace those Par

Do I need to replace those Parts or just check them? Cause the Boat was running Find last year.

"Mark, You simply asked where

"Mark, You simply asked where the t-stats and wterpump were.

If the motor warms up OK, doesn't overheat and pumps water OK, I would leave them alone.

BTW- Waterpumps need periodic replacement (3-5 years)."

OK Cool thanks man. Sorry I am
