Hello everyone I just joined this forum and this is my first boat purchased. It is a 1980 Chrysler 358MA according to the recent title. I was told it has a inboard mopar 360 punched out to a 383 but who knows. I can't find the engine tag on the motor or any history of these boats. If anyone knows anything about these boats please let me know. She needs alot of love but I really like her and want to restore it for fishing and fun with my wife and kids...Thanks so much. Duane

You can't "punch out" a 360 to a 383. If the distributor is in front it MIGHT be a 383; if not it's a318/ 340/ 360. Good engines.

Thanks for your help man.. The distributor is in the back and I tore the motor apart today to find rust in the cylinders. Still did not find tag on motor. I think the origional owner blew up the engine and threw in another..Basically he lied to me. I don't know anything about this model of boat and dont know if it is worth restoring....

A lot of marine engines can get hacked together..........post a few pics and we"ll see what you got....Look on the side of the block.....the numbers should tell you every thing...Both sides...... just underneath the head

Well bad news...I disassembled alot of the engine and found water in some cylinders. The engine will have to be rebuilt and it is going to cost 2500 to 3000 bucks. As much as I like this boat I am going to sell it. Anyone interested please let me know. It is a 1980 Chrysler 358 MA with a 360 and 300 outdrive. The outdrive has been rebuilt by previous owner and he also gave me the stern drive book with it. The boat needs a new floor and seats and probably some other small things. Let me know if interested. :([email protected]

Spray some lube or trans fluid in the cylinders, let it sit a while and see if you can turn the engine over by hand, the manifolds rotted out at some point and let water into the cylinders. If you can turn it over, you may get lucky and only have to replace the manifolds and risers.

i have a fresh 360 chrysler in my project boat lineup except it is a counter rotating engine meaning its going backwards. my boat was sunk and i wont rebuild after salt corrosion. there is a place in hollywood florida called rapidco marine you can get a regular rotation 360 chrysler with everything in and around the motor new and(marine) not car engine for $1.300 and they will deliver anywhere for a very low fee. if i can help you along the way just email me at [email protected] my motor is not done yet but close have some photos if you need help with hoses etc...cheers
