What is this part ?

I removed the lower unit on my alpha one gen 2 out drive and found this part. I don't know what it is or where it goes.
I hope someone can help.

Its what is left of the rubber exhaust flapper... It was in the exhaust pipe.

I took apart the exhaust this morning and they are melted ! I will remove the upper portion of the outdrive and check for debris in the exhaust also.
I never knew about these items, they are not shown in SELOC repair manual.
