What is this and how to replace?

Hi ‘81 35hp evinrude. Noticing front of motor pretty oily. This cap isn’t in tight. What can I do? Thx

Looks like it’s called a ‘plug, air silencer’ so I need it?

It may affect the high speed operation if you leave it out. Maybe yes, maybe not. The motor uses sound waves as part of the induction tuning system. Whatever, I don't think it is necessary for it to be a tight fit.

Thanks. I found one on eBay. Wasn’t sure if oil would leak otherwise. I have been turning up to speed find.

Its a plug which blanks off the hole in the air silencer which would give acces to an adjustable high speed needle on other engines

Thx that’s how I found what’s called. Anyway it’s on the way. Ty. While I’m at it. What’s the best / easiest way to Dog this motor? I’m in New England but do intend to run the fuel out and keep it the garage this winter.
