Kinda got ripped off when I bought this 1987 renken 1950- got it pretty cheap but I was told the engine was good in it. Just realized it is not - block is a popped popsicle. it went off to the scrapyard yesterday. the motor was a 120 merc - seems kinda small to shove a 19 footer. what would a good engine be in it and does anyone have any info as to what engine will be good on this thing and what engines it will handle. I do not care about a bit of fiberglassing to make new motor mounts, as I have a buddy that scratch builds fiberglass aircraft so can help with that, and the floor will have to be repaired in places as well since it is soft in those high traffic areas. I am only concerned with what will be okay with the boat structure, but so the boat doesnt go slow with the motor mostly at full power. I can get some decent engines for a good price, I am looking at the same one, a 3.0, a 4.3 ( havent seen much of those) and a small block V8. all engines are 1K or less and the seller allows me to take as much parts as I need up to the drive. I am only concerned about the fit in the transom mount. I will get an appropriate drive and manifolds and all of that kinds of stuff. thanks
