"I have a motor that says tracker on the cowling but mercury everywhere else. I think it is a 40hp, but the s/n doesn't fit on some web sites. The s/n is OG554779. Any information would be great. I am trying to get some carb parts and the dealer says that Mercury didn't put the WMA-1 carbs on a 40 hp motor and that is what I have."

"Monte, the WMA-1's were used on 4 cylinder 50 horse models - but back in the mid 80's.

I would guess that 1) you haven't owned this motor since new and 2) whoever had it before had visions of hopping up the horsepower.

The serial as Tom suspects is for a 1997 model, the carb came off something at least 10 years older..."

It is a 4 cylinder and I bought it from the original owner who swears that he didn't change anything about the carbs.

"The other possibility is, that this being a "Tracker", Merc may have decided to get rid of some "old stock" carbs and threw them on these motors (much the same as they did with the Force line).

I had assumed that the Tracker models were simply dressed differently for the package deal, but that may not be the case..."
