i have a 3 cylinder evinrude with a model number 115893c, serial no. j0002540. it runs but the compression is low, i'd like to order the right parts, any help will be appreciated.

A three (3) cylinder 115hp.... Not likely!

Also the model number does ID it as an Evinrude BUT the "J" in front of the serial number identifies it as a Johnson. Where are you getting those numbers from?

You need to look to the modelnumber, this is an Evinrude modelnumber. From a 115 hp. If you have another engine, somebody switched the plates. Are you sure the engine isn't stolen in the past?!

they're on the tag on the motor bracket, i suspect somebody did some parts swapping at some point. i was told it was a johnson 70 but would like to know how to tell for sure since the tag doesn't seem to match.

Look on the powerhead for a small quarter size core plug... looks like a small freeze out plug. That may have the true numbers on it (hopefully). Otherwise, as Racerone states... post some pictures. The paint scheme of the hood may tell the tale.

no numbers on what looks like a freeze plug on top of the cylinders, there is 329835-4 cast in the head betwee the upper two spark plugs. i'll try to post some pictures if i can figure it out. thanks for all the responses.
