What can I use to replace these old parts?

Hi everyone, I've just bought my first old boat its an old '69 tri-hull with a mercruiser 120 and pre-alpha stern drive. One of the few problems with getting it in the water is the steering cable being seized. It is a ride guide 15' 6" Rack and Pinion steering system, the last person the had it must have tried to just crank the wheel to free it up because the gears are stripped on the slide bar. Anyway I see Teleflex makes cables of similiar design to these, i'm wondering if any teleflex cable would be compatible with my application. I was looking at http://www.amazon.com/Teleflex-SS13710-Safe-T-Connect-Steering/dp/B003L4EEW2/ref=pd_sim_auto_1 as an alternative, or should I be looking at something else?

Also the trim up and down on the motor is intermittant it looks like at some point someone replaced the stock switch with a three way toggle of some kind. In the wiring diagram it seems to suggest there should be some kind of 7 or so position switch wired to other things as well. Does this sound plausible to any one or if not what kind of proper replacement switch should I be looking at?

Any tips on freeing up these cables? been trying rubber mallet and penetrating oil... to no avail.
 
Beowulf, with upmost respect, and while not wanting to be coined as a "Nah-Sayer" here......, please note that you have an older '69 tri-hull with a mercruiser 120 and pre-alpha stern drive.
The engine and drive components are no doubt going to require some attention and parts replacement.
It may not be easy to source all parts...... nor inexpensive.

The Tri-Hull is another issue.
Make sure that you understand what a Tri-Hull is, and how one performs, and that it suits your needs before spending much money on this hull.

Sometimes inexpensive boats turn into EXPENSIVE projects.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't get a junk heap. The engine and everything attached to it is so clean it looks like it just rolled off the show room floor. It also starts and runs with no issues. Every guage and switch is original and in perfect condition (except tilt switch). I've used tri-hulls most of my life, I live in a fishing town on the northern california coast and used one for commercial live fishing with my dad for years. As well as my partner in this boat used an identicle one as a commercial urchin boat for years, so i'm comfortable with the design. All I literally am needing for this is the steering cable and at some point maybe the tilt switch.

Good to hear that, and I now better understand your interest in this boat!

Ditto Bondo, or replace just the cable (the old ones allow for a cable only replacement).

Try Brad at Fairview Marine Supply in Oregon, should you need a Tilt/Trim switch.
Brad owns quite a supply of older Merc parts.
