What are the key things to look for in a used boat.

Taking a boat for a test drive in a few day's. It's quite old but looks well maintained. B21 engine not sure what model 280 leg. What are the good things to look for in these old girls as to not pay for a nightmare. If possible?

My boat is 40 years old. When I bought it I didn't expect it to be perfect. I spent about as much on getting it and the trailer in shape as I did on the purchase. As an ex-auto mechanic, a 4 cylinder motor and 280 drive wouldn't scare me in the slightest, but a soft transom would be a roadblock.
