I am trying to find out the model and serial number on my motor. The data plate is missing on the transom. Please someone tell me where the welsh plug is so I might be able to find this info. Thank You very much

If the motor cover is original , than post a picture, that will enable positive identification via the 74 brochure !

The welch plug should be on the top of the motor behind the flywheel on the shifter side. should be silver disc with #s on it.

I also agree that the artical is very informative and easy to understand. I am going to try to contact Mr. Wiezner and see if he can supply me with a paper copy of it, as it is in terms that are easy to understand.

Note that when the ID Plate and the ID Core Plug of a engine are both missing, that usually indicates the engine is hot. No other reason for them to be missing.

No need to bother doing that... very unlikely they could do anything except confiscatethe engine. If hot, it was probably from seven states away about 15 or 20 years ago or so.

To narrow it down a bit. A 1974,75,76 would not have a powerpack. A 1977 up would have a powerpack.

To my knowledge, no changes existed with the 1974,75,76 models.

Thank You very much. My motor has points, so it sounds like it is within those three years. I looked online and there in not a lot of difference between them. Thanks again.
