weird stuff at the boatyard

So, my boat is on the hard. Pretty quiet at this yard, likely due to the heat; it's been 95 deg, 90% humidity and little wind. A couple of events this week though. La Diva is being dissected a few stalls down from me. It (was) a 105 footer that burned up. A triple diesel, used to be owned by Ivana Trump. The engines were yanked out this week, and slowly the boat is getting shorter, by the wrecking crew. A very sobering site.
We also had an owner fall off of their own boat this week; hit her head hard at the conclusion of an 8' fall.
Be safe out there!

Just a routine, 4 day haulout. Barnacles on the running gear, a few on the hull, it's been about 20 months. In the summer here, a clean prop is only good for 2 weeks running, before those little guys clobber it.

Wow Dave, that's why you dive. Just to clean the hull and running gear ? When I was a kid in Miami, we would go to Matheson Hammock marina for fuel and supplies (bait)...it was a smaller quaint marina in So.Miami that had a beautiful view. However, trips up thru the bay had some yachts out there that were amazing AND typically well over 100'. NEVER, thought about how they haul em for service and what happens to them in the end.

Here in NJ the marina manager told me how many owners eventually abandon their boats as they age and without titles, he is usually stuck cutting them up and disposing them. None are 100 ' though.

I'd bet the scrap job cost more than a few of our hulls would, added cumulatively. Must be a real pain having that much money to squander on trivial items.
