"Hello All,

This issue is on a 1987 MERCURY 35 ELPTO serial# OB205529.
When the engine is running I have water spurting out of the top mounts on the drive shaft housing where the steering arm bolts onto it. I'm not having overheating issues, and have a good stream from the telltale. This is a recent development, and is getting progressively worse.
Any thoughts on what is going on here, and how to begin resolving it?

Thanks,
Chris"

"Hi there,

Could be that the gasket between the powerhead and leg is shot. Would mean to pull powerhead off to see if it's the case.

Hope this helps?

Keep us posted.

"water at the bottom knuckle would be from the waterpump housing, water tube, or from the speedo line fitting. If it increases with boat speed its the speedo and is not a problem. If it increases with rpm then the waterpump assembly needs attention, it should be changed every 2 years either way."
