How hard of a job is it to rep

How hard of a job is it to replace the water shutters in a 1990 260 Mercruiser?I've been told you can unclamp the hoses and slide them down the "Y" pipe to get at the shutters.

"If there's room to work back there, it's a possibility. If it's anything like mine... I can't even see the y pipe without pulling the exhaust elbows."

"Like Troy stated in some instances you can reach them, other you can't. In my Wellcraft Nova, it requires removing all of the seating, and being double jointed in a few spots, but it is possible. If you can reach them, it's fairly simple.

"Yes, I have had to file the side holes into a slot upward to allow the pins to snap in. Merc missed that one in the bag of parts. I think newer y pipes are different to accept the newer flapper. I would have to check my service bulletins."
