I have a general quetion. Is it possible to overheat an engine if water is properly coming out of the "pee hole?"

"I am just paranoid. I ran it today for a while and held my hand in the water stream and it was warm, but not hot. I then left it in neutral and it cooled off real quick, so I am sure it's fine. I honestly never paid attention to it before so I am not sure what is normal or not for temperature."

depending on what model but mo

depending on what model but most mercs water pump indicator is thermosatic controlled it should be warm if not hot

"Tim, Most of the inline Mercs did not have a thermostat. They therefore run just the way yours does. At speed they have warm to hot water exiting the teletale. At idle the teletale stream cools off to lukewarm. Behaviour that is different from this on an inline means the waterpump impeller need replacement."
