I just bought a 18 foot pontoon with a 50 hp johnson. It was just serviced.i tried to start it with ear muffs.but it would not pick up the water. Any advise.i have been told that some engines will not pick up water this way.

So was it running hot?------Was any water comimg out of the tell tale ?---Was any water coming out of the prop ?--Was the hose on full blast ?

With muffs, it does not "pick up" the water. But I know what you are saying---water isn't circulating through the motor.

A water pump impeller with a loose hub will block the flow.

That 50hp engine, running on a flushette... the water "must" be turned on full force.
