I have a 1988 Bayliner with twin 5.7 OMC's. Do I need a special marine water pump or can I use automotive pump?

If your engines are fitted with a closed cooling system, the automotive circulating pump won't know that it's been installed on a Marine SBC.
It will work just fine.
It must be the short body automotive circ pump..... the long body circ pump will not fit.

If raw water cooled, then you'd best use the Marine version with the SS or Bronze impeller, and the special ceramic seal.

Thanks. Guess I will have to go with the Marine version since mine is not a close system. Have a nice weekend.
Oh, by the way, what can you tell me about this problem? Everytime I am backing into my slip my port engine dies when I go from forward to reverse.
