Water pump telltalke is weak

Hi,

I am the proud owner and restorer of a J15 1992 2 stroke. I have done alll sorts on it, recoil, fuel lines, carb etc...

The water pump looks fine and I have replaced the impeller but when the unit idles only drips come out of the telltale hole.

When the throttle goes up the stream of water that comes out is strong ish.

The engine does not get too hot to touch even under continous high speed.

So is this OK? or should I investigate more ?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Herman

Right common problem. If there is a "L" shaped fitting where pee tube enters powerhead, that's also a problem area. Also could be a partial leak at top of supply tube o-ring....or whatever you want to call it. Gotta remove powerhead, however, to inspect properly. Have you checked thermostat area? Crap can build there too. Just did a 25 that some stuff had stuck thermo open.
Don't know how I got a "thumbs down". Not supposed to be there, can't get it off.

Investigate further. See what flyingscott ad timguy say above also check the thermostat. It controls the cooling system pressure as well as the temperature.

Thanks all for your help.

It turns out that it was blocked.

I went on a long trip - kept clearing it out with a bit of wire - it kept blocking up again...

By the third day it was clear and pumps out like a train now thanks.

Cheers

A simple fix.....often overlooked. Good that it wasn't another problem like that supply tube seal at powerhead.
