water pump stream?

Hello,

I just acquired a Johnson 18hp, Model no. FD-19D. I believe it's a 1965.

My question is this... should this engine shoot a small stream of water out when running?

I'm used to other motors that do, and wondering if this one should.

I took it out for a maiden voyage today, and it ran fine, but no stream of water "p*ssing" out the side. It didn't seem to overheat.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Half way up the exhaust housing is where the water shoots out with the exhaust relief.------------That is all you need.--------I assume that previous owners for 50 years did not need a modern indicator.------When you aquire a motor like that you need to install a new impeller.------Reason is that there is no shutdown / warning system on this motor.------If waterpump fails then motor may come to a " dynamic halt " and it will cost you $$$$$$
