Water pump replacement

I recently replaced the water pump on my 70 hp evinrude and did the update as well. It seems like very little water runs out of the tattle tale and a lot out of the auxiliary exhaust. Is this common for the update.

Run a weed eater line up your tattle tale once and see what happens.
There seems to be no obstruction up the hose unless it is at the top of the block where the hose hooks to the block. This engine did not have the tell tale update where it came out the top of the block and just dumps out the side of the cover. My 93 engine still uses the small telltale but this kit did not call for it. There seems to be a lot of water coming out of the mid section exhaust ports. Expecially when hooked to muffs it is a steady stream.

Was the old impeller starting to break up? There could be debris in that elbow which will collect at that smallest trap. I suggest take out the fitting and run the water through to flush out the crap, or the problem will reocurr.

I will give that a try. Should I be alarmed at the amount of water coming out the mid section exhaust.

The "upgrades" in my opinion are not as good as original equipment. Often the impeller use stubby shortened fingers which are bent within a tighter radius. This shortens impeller life. The pumps work great for about 5 years, then you better check them with an internal inspection yearly. Once they start to go, They go fast. OEM pumps on OMC's most often, were engineered with larger diameters and long lazy fingers that had more room to flex. My 1967 6hp Fisherman is still on its second impeller and it gets trolled about 50 hours a year. It has over 3000 hours on it, looks and runs like new. How about that for engineering?

I will get a picture of it this evening if possible. The update was a different pump plate, move the telltale to the top of the exhaust, 3/16 hose for the telltale and replace the spring on the thermostat. I know when I hooked it up to the muffs to test pump, water just poured out of the midsection exhaust and when I put in water, it still had I thought a lot of water coming out of this mid section exhaust and very little water coming out of the telltale hose. The old hose had a restrictor on the end of the hose and the kit calls for this to be deleted and a new grommet was provided to slide the hose through.
