Water pump on 200 4 stroke

"Own a 2002 200 hp yamaha 4 stroke. Cranked up the other day and noticed water comming out of pee hole was flowing kind of slow. Had hose attached, but is this nomal for being out of the water, or does the impeller need replacing. If so where do I disconnect the shifting rod that goes throught the lower unit?"
