"hi guys just joined the forum

"hi guys just joined the forum so thought i would introduce myself and at the same time ask a question. I have a mercury 50hp 2stroke 4 cyl blue band and noticed steam from the tell tell. when you fit the new impeller it is bigger than the housing, so the vanes have to fold in. does it matter which way this goes in, will it suck instead of blow. cheers guys and hope to be able to help you at some time.(electrician)

"put the impeller on the shaft

"put the impeller on the shaft with key installed, lube it, slide the housing over impeller while pushing down and turning drive shaft clockwise. Easy when lubed up. Always turn drive shaft CW."

"be nice to that classic 50, its a good one. At the top of the water tube is a seal, if the motor has overheated it melts preventing water going to the powerhead. Also check the lower seal on the tube. Where's that beer located?"

is this now a major job or something a competent person can do. does the whole thing have to be stripped to get to this seal. sorry about so many questions i am new to outboards and have not yet recieved my cd manual; motorcycles no problem ( gsx 1400 and ktm off road ) outboards ( still learning) and you have to go to the virtual bar to get the virtual pint that i brought you from lara the virtual barmaid. thanks again buddy.

"remove lower, hook hose to water tube, lets see what happens. check water tube for crack also. The seal/grommet is plastic and rubber held in with 2 small bolts, with a flash light laying under the mid section you might see it. go here,

look up, merc, 1983, 50hp, click on exhaust plate, parts 3-5 is the seal. Did you clean pee tube with weed eater string.
