Water pump impeller on a 25hp johnson

"Took the boat out last weeken

"Took the boat out last weekend and had no water coming out of the tell-tail. Pulled the hose and cleared it, still no stream of water. Picked up a new water pump housing and impeller today. Is this the right step? Or could it be something else?

"how,long..has it been,since u chg it?..u can NEVER,go wrong,by inst a new wtr pump kit!...but,..u could have had a blockage,in the lin,or the fittings,on ea end.........if ,after the new pump inst,if done,correctly,u still have no pee stream,ck the hose,fittings.."
 
I already checked the fittings

I already checked the fittings and the hose and it looks fine. I have had the boat for about a year and I havn't changed the impeller and I'm not sure when the last guy had it changed. It was shootin a stream one weekend and the next it was shooting for about 3 seconds then stoped. I'm changing the pump tommorrow so hopefully thats what she needs.

Ok So I changed the impeller and the old one looked good. Still no water shooting out of the exit hole. Plus I don't think we got the lower unit put back on correctly. If the drive shaft gets pulled out do you have to get to the pinion gear or will it just slide back in? When we pulled the lower unit the shaft would pop right out with ease so I'm guessing it should just pop back in???????

Alright so I got her put back together again but I'm still not having a pee stream. What else can it be?

Did you make sure the drive pi

Did you make sure the drive pin was installed that turns the impeller? Had to ask because if it dropped out - impeller will not turn.
 
yes the impeller key was put i

yes the impeller key was put in. Matt one my motor there is 2 diff. drive shafts. If the drive shaft slides out with ease then yes just slide her back in.
 
"A long shot.. I just received

"A long shot.. I just received a water pump kit and the new base gasket - that locates under the water pump case had the supply hole located in the wrong spot. If I used that gasket - it would have blocked the water inlet port and no water to pump. I tried another new gasket I had and the hole was correct. I don't know why the gasket supply hole was wrong but I am glad I didn't install it. Who knows how many pump kits fit what? I'm sure the gaskets can get mixed up. like I say - long shot. And yes, I made sure I was locating the gasket correct - the holes in it are designed to locate only one way. (murphy proof) "
 
Poke some wire up the pee hole

Poke some wire up the pee hole - it might be just bunged up. Is water flowing out thru the prop when running?
