water pump help

hi all I just purchased a mid 80s 15hp 2stroke evinrude.it runs good but I only run it about 30 sec.because no water comes out the pee-hole.air comes out so what do I need to check?thanks,I really want to go fishing

Unless you know the history of the water pump I would drop the lower unit and have a look at it. Also check the grommets.

thanks,well my friend came over and we put the water hose muffs on and the pumps working.

If you are trying to run your motor in a tub make sure the water level is well above the intake holes; the pump is not self priming and water must be above the pump for it to work.
