Water pump for 2005 6 hp Johnson 4 stroke

How do you access the water pu

How do you access the water pump on this model. I have released the bottom gear case but it will not drop down far enough to reach the pump. Do I have to disconnect the drive shaft/gear shift/water pipe somehow?
